Come Out for More Light! Host a house party

Register Your Coming Out for More Light Weekend House Party, October 10-11, 2009

More Light house parties help to build grass roots support and raise funds for MLP

Coming Out Weekend October 10th and 11th, 2009Plan now to host or co-host a MLP house party on October 10 or 11 in your home, church or neighborhood coffee shop.  Join the national teleconference call with MLP leaders to ask your questions, be part of changing history, and supporting LGBT equality by raising money for MLP outreach across the country.   Michael Adee will be in DC for the National Equality March, so this will be a way for you & your group to connect “live” with the March.

The call-in time will be 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM Eastern on both evenings, October 10 & 11.   Plan your house party according to this time and you'll be able to be on the national call.  And, if your house party is at another day and time, that's fine, too.  We simply say, "party on."

October 10 and 11, 2009, is Coming Out for More Light weekend in solidarity with National Coming Out Day. More Light Presbyterians supporters throughout the country will hold house parties to have fun, meet local LGBT Presbyterians and their supporters, build a grass-roots movement and raise money.

Both party dates will feature national conference calls with More Light leaders and MLP Executive Director & Field Organizer, Michael J. Adee, and there will be opportunities for party guests to ask them questions.

How many friends make a house party? Remember, "where 2 or 3 are gathered... you have a house party."

House parties are easy, fun, and a great way to support MLP by giving your friends an opportunity to donate. Plus, MLP helps with your house party in several ways:

  • We'll list your party on our web site and invite MLP supporters to contact you electronically. (You also have the option to hold an unlisted "private" party.)
  • Our detailed More Light house party guide and our new house party Frequently Asked Questions documents are available to help you host a great party.
  • Talk about how your group can work in your local church, campus ministry, seminary community or presbytery to work for equality both within our national church and throughout our nation and put together your Campaign Action Plan!

To participate in one of the house party conference calls, make sure that your house party starts an hour before the scheduled call time. This will give you time to sign everyone in and enjoy some time together and then join the conference call.

Imagine the solidarity, community-building and fundraising possible by hosting, co-hosting or attending a MLP house party during this historic weekend!  And, the fundraising is easier than ever this year because of a matching grant which doubles every donation given to MLP before the end of the year.  So, if your house party raises $250 for MLP on October 10 or 11, this means you will be raising $500.

The call-in time will be 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM Eastern on both evenings, October 10 & 11.   Plan your house party according to this time and you'll be able to be on the national call.  And, if your house party is at another day and time, that's fine, too.  We simply say, "party on."
