Mission Statement

West Hollywood Presbyterian Church
West Hollywood, CA

Became a More Light Church in September 1978

The West Hollywood Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a Christ centered part of the Lesbian/Gay community which strives to be inclusive, welcoming everyone.

Called by God through the Scriptures and the Spirit, we seek the love of God in Jesus Christ.

We claim the gifts of God to create justice and nurture each other so that all people come to feel accepted by the wildly inclusive love of God evidenced in the Christ Spirit.

WE COVENANT TOGETHER TO:

  • Reclaim Scripture as basic to our faith, and empowering and liberating for all.
  • Affirm and protect God's beautiful, complex and diverse creation.
  • Celebrate that beautiful diversity in the myriad types of people and forms of life and loving expression we see around us.
  • Educate ourselves and others about Scripture and the changing realities of our community and our world.
  • WE COVENANT TOGETHER TO:

  • Care for each other and stand with each other when sick, bereaved, hurting, or in need.
  • Care for the hungry, homeless, imprisoned, hurting, and those in need in the world around us.
  • Live an active ministry of faith and love with those with HIV/AIDS and their partners, families, and friends.
  • Specifically, reach out to embrace and include Lesbian women and Gay/Lesbian people of color.
  • WE COVENANT TOGETHER TO:

  • Be an example and advocate of diversity and justice in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in our community.
  • Be a More Light Church, support the work of the Lazarus Project, and work in the "larger" church as an advocate for Lesbian/Gay Christians.
  • Spread the message of Christ's love for all those affected by HIV/AIDS to the Church and community.
  • Be an example and advocate of peacemaking within our congregation and the world.
  • Confess our own racism, sexism, AIDS phobia, homophobia, and advocate justice for all marginalized people.
  • WE COVENANT TOGETHER TO:

  • Creatively worship God, and so celebrate our spirituality
  • Encourage both personal and spiritual growth.
  • Build community by actively participating in the life and ministry of this church.
  • Extend grace to members, elected leaders, and staff of this church, respecting each other so as to build trust, believing that we all desire to be faithful to Jesus Christ.
  • Be faithful and thankful stewards of this congregation through the generous giving of our time, energy, and financial resources.
  • In this day and time, we covenant together to be the Church. Amen.
