1. Whereas the Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church of San Francisco has had a long tradition of welcoming members regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, ethnic background (or financial status),
2. Whereas the congregation of the Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church has chosen and continues to choose persons meeting the requisite qualifications for church leadership, including elders and deacons, and holds the firm belief that such elective positions will not be denied anyone on the basis of sex, sexual orientation or ethnic background,
3. Whereas we have seen the church, sensitive to the continuing revelation of the Holy Spirit in history, move to welcome into fuller participation groups formerly excluded -- women and ethnic minorities -- we feel the church is now similarly called to affirm the inclusiveness of God's love for our lesbian and gay sisters and brothers who have been excluded from the church's acceptance,
4. Whereas we recognize that no one individual has ultimate authority in the interpretation of scripture, including those passages that have been used to condemn gay and lesbian people, and that it is the responsibility of individuals, clergy and judicatories to continue to seek more light from the Holy Spirit in discovering which scriptures are intended for a certain period in history and which have validity for all people of all times,
5. Whereas we believe that all persons regardless of sexual orientation are called to be responsible and caring in their personal relationships,
6. Whereas the Session of Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church concurs with the Minority Report to the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. at its 190th General Assembly (1978) which supporte the full participation of gay and lesbian men and women in the life and polity of the church,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Session of the Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church of San Francisco goes on record stating that membership and full rights and responsibilities of the membership are extended to all persons who acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior regardless of race, sex, or sexual preference.
