Noe Valley Ministry
San Francisco, CA
May 1984

In keeping with the spirit and ministry of Jesus Christ and the spirit and style of the Noe Valley Ministry in San Francisco, we welcome and embrace all persons of faith, regardless of sexual preference, racial or ethnic background, level of education, income or other human condition. We affirm that all human beings are made in God's image, and that all human beings are members of the body of Christ. And we believe that in meeting each other in Christian love, God's spirit frees us all to give and grow, liberated from the oppression invoked upon us by ourselves and others.

We are eager and willing to become enlightened on questions of lifestyles, sexuality, feminism, and mission and ministry with all people regardless of sexual preference. To better serve the diverse community in which the Noe Valley Ministry is located, we choose to be a congregation in which Lesbian and Gay persons are welcome as full participants in the life and worship of the Body of Christ without having to deny or hide their sexual preference.

Within this context, and aware of the traditional guidance of the Presbyterian Church on behalf of openness and inclusiveness, including the guidance of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA (especially the 1978 Assembly's report and minority report regarding ordination of Lesbian/Gay persons), Noe Valley Ministry intends to be a 'More Light' Church and to be listed in the directory of More Light Churches of Presbyterians for Lesbian and Gay Concerns. Noe Valley Ministry intends to include persons in its community on the basis of their faith and their journey with God and to ordain qualified persons to ministry without regard to their sexual prefernce, sex, race, or national origin, physical condition or lifestyle.
