You are invited to connect "live" with the National Equality March , Washington, DC at MLP house parties around the country
This National Coming Out Day, October 11, with companion events the day before on October 10, you and your family, church, youth group, campus ministry or seminary community can connect "live" with MLP from the National Equality March.
Plan now to host or co-host a MLP house party on October 10 or 11 in your home, church or neighborhood coffee shop. Join the national teleconference call with MLP leaders to ask your questions, be part of changing history, and supporting LGBT equality by raising money for MLP outreach across the country. Michael Adee will be in DC for the National Equality March, so this will be a way for you & your group to connect “live” with the March.
To join in on the national teleconference call from Washington, DC, simply call in on the telephone number that will supplied to each house party host and you'll join the call. You'll get a in-person glimpse of the March from Michael, be able to ask questions and "make some noise" on the call to show your support for LGBT equality in both Church and society. |

God's Whole Family! worship celebration at
Second Presbyterian Church, Nashville
Nashville, TN: They came from "north and south, east
and west," literally. Over 150 people attended "God's
Whole Family!" the National Welcoming and Affirming Presbyterian
Conference hosted by Second Presbyterian Church, Nashville, Tennessee and
produced by More Light Presbyterians over the recent Labor Day weekend.
Presbyterians from 24 states and the
District of Columbia came together for worship, inspiration, spiritual growth
and Christian community. From California and Oregon, Arizona to
Connecticut, New York to Florida, Presbyterians came together to celebrate God's
love for all of God's children and creation, no exceptions. Guided by the
conference Biblical text of 1 John 3:1, "How great is
the love God has lavished on us that we should be called children of God! And
that is what we are," conference participants reflected upon the Gospel
of Jesus Christ that embraces, not excludes. |

RE: "Protestant Churches shift slowly toward gay
equality"
There are signs of hope and change all around us. I
commend to you the Op-Ed piece from today's Boston Globe by
Wendy Cadge, Brandeis University and Laura Olson, Clemson University. Their
analysis and reflections can certainly inform our mission, ministry, and
educational outreach as we work to achieve spiritual, ordination and marriage
equality in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and beyond us. The full article
follows.
On Friday, we will have the privilege to welcome Presbyterians from over 25
states to "God's Whole Family!" the National
Welcoming & Affirming Presbyterian Conference, September 4 - 6, hosted by
Second Presbyterian Church, Nashville, TN and produced by More Light
Presbyterians. We will celebrate together the incredible progress made toward
LGBT equality at the 218th General Assembly and throughout the Amendment 08-B
Campaign.
It is not too late to make plans to join us in Nashville. Registration and
conference information at www.mlp.org |

Boston, Mass. Today, charges against the Rev.
Jean Southard, Presbyterian minister, were dismissed by the Presbytery
of Boston's Permanent Judicial Commission. Charges were brought against Jean
for officiating at a wedding of two women which is a legal in the state of
Massachusetts.
Rev. Janet Edwards, Co-Moderator, More
Light Presbyterians, said, "I give thanks for the faithful pastoral ministry of
Rev. Jean Southard and the decision today recognizes and respects those pastoral
responsibilities. This PJC decision encourages all of us to continue the
dialogue about the meaning of marriage for both church and state."

vote inspires me to continue the dialogue within the Presbyterian Church (USA),"
said Rev. Janet Edwards, Co-Moderator, More Light
Presbyterians.

A friend sent me this article today and I was taken in
by its title, "Why Gay Guys are Churchier than their
Straight Brethren."
George Barna, the evangelical research
pollster is at it again. You might find the results of his new study
startling. For those of us who are LGBT and people of faith, these
understandings are not too surprising. Moreover, they can certainly inform how
we think about faith, the nature of the Gospel and what it means to be the
Church.
And, bottom line, what is at stake when fear
and inhospitality are chosen over extravagant welcome and hospitality? Think
about your own family ...local church, denomination or faith tradition. What
choices have you made, are you willing to make?
I commend David Gibson's article below
and George Barna's new study to you. |
