Liberating Love How does Love liberate us? What is liberating about God's love for us, and for all the world? What is liberating about being in love? What is liberating about our love for each other as part of the Body of Christ and the realm of God on earth? |

Our field organizer Michael Adee recently compiled this list of 10 ways that local More Light movement supporters can make a difference for LGBT equality, right where you are.
Ten Ways To Make a Difference in your Church or Presbytery
1. Pray for open hearts & minds to the Spirit of God at work in your church and presbytery beginning with your own.
2. Embrace all persons as children of God created in the image of God and of sacred worth including yourself.
3. Seek out and join companions who are committed to ending discrimination, offering sanctuary and creating equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons & their families.
4. Nurture a theology, ethic and practice of hospitality within your church family and presbytery. |

Want to begin, advance or deepen the welcome and affirmation of LGBT persons and their families in your local congregation, presbytery, campus ministry or seminary community?
Working to address other social change and faith matters such as racism, sexism, economic justice, immigration, and peace-making?
If you said yes to either of the above questions, then this training is for you. Inspired by Gamaliel training, created by Lutherans Concerned, and co-sponsored by More Light Presbyterians, this faith-based community organizing training weekend offers you insights, practical resources and tools to help you achieve change in your church, local community and presbytery.
Join us -- May 17 - May 20, Boston, MA at The Walker Center, 171 Grove Street, Auburndale in Newton, metro Boston. Information and details follow this invitation.
Please forward and share this opportunity with others in your network or circle of family, friends and church. |

On the evening of April 29, Lazarus Project Board Member, Sonnie Swentson, served as Emcee of the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Lazarus Project hosted by Pasadena Presbyterian Church, Pasadena, CA. Reflecting upon the Lazarus Projects' mission and history of service, Sonnie quoted and expanded upon Henri Nouwens' belief in the importance of the telling of our stories:
"We have to trust that our stories deserve to be told. We may discover that the better we tell our stories the better we will want to live them." (Henri Nouwen).
"So whether we tell our stories in written form or orally, we just need to tell them and tell them--and to know that they are valid and they are useful, and the telling of our stories is something that we are supposed to do. This is one of the thing that Lazarus did so well over the years, and something that we need to do ourselves, and to find ways to encourage others to do as we go our separate ways." (Sonnie Swentson) |

Central Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, affirms More Light affiliation, ministry and witness as the only congregation in Heartland Presbytery and Kansas City to presently do so.
By offering a clear, genuine welcome and affirmation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons and their families into the life of their congregation in the midst of many other ministries of caring, peace and justice, it is our hope and prayer that other churches will be inspired by Central's example and witness.

A Holy Week reflection by MLP field organizer Michael Adee
Growing up in southern Louisiana, palm branches were easy picking. Palmetto grew wild all over the piney woods near our home. As a young boy having been loved into faith within a small Presbyterian church and by my parents, the ritual of waving these palm leaves was a mystery to me. Palm leaves seemed out of place at church, and yet, so at home in the woods.
Palm Sunday, a triumphal reception fit for a king and entry into Jerusalem. It seems like a set-up. As I waved a palm branch this morning at the United Church of Santa Fe, a part of me wanted to cry out, "Watch out, Jesus. The story is not over." |

The Rev. Dr. Janet Edwards, Minister of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA), a minister-member and former Moderator, Pittsburgh Presbytery, and a member of the National Board of Directors for MLP, has received a second round of judicial charges after the Pittsburgh Presbytery PJC dismissed the first charges on November 15, 2006.
Whoever said that "lightning could not strike a second time" was not thinking of a handful of anti-gay Presbyterians not willing to accept the decision of the first PJC. |
