Good News from Oklahoma! Cimarron Presbytery approves Ordination Amendment 08-B |
|
Tuesday, February 10 2009 @ 07:30 PM by Michael Adee
Today, February 10, at First Presbyterian Church, Alma, Oklahoma, Cimarron Presbytery affirmed the 218th General Assembly's Ordination Amendment 08-B by a vote of 19 Yes, 16 No.
The Cimarron Presbytery vote of opposition to the Ordination Amendment in 2001 was 16 Yes to 20 No. Cimarron Presbytery has its ministry center in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Within less than 2 weeks, this is the fourth presbytery to "flip" from opposition in 2001 to approval in 2009 with Western North Carolina as the first presbytery to flip.
Special thanks to all those working to end discrimination against LGBT Presbyterians and their families now in the Cimarron Presbytery. You are an inspiration. We want to offer particular gratitude to John McNeese, Gordon Edwards, Leah Hrachovec, Vikki Dearing, and Debra Peevey for providing outreach and serving as resource persons within this presbytery.
From the "it's a small world category," Cimarron Presbytery was the presbytery of my family when I was a child as my parents were active members of First Presbyterian Church, Ponca City. When John McNeese served on the National MLP Board, we figured out that our fathers served on Session together and our families often sat near one another on Sunday mornings. The Presbyterian Church (USA) is, indeed, a connectional church.
We want to alert all of you working in local presbyteries to pass 08-B to prepared for any of the "No Action" efforts in your presbytery and be ready to address them.
Thanks be to God for this victory in Cimarron Presbytery! Together We are building a Church for all God's people.
with hope and grace,
Michael
PS -- Special thanks to Bruce Hahne, recent National MLP Board Member and Elder, First Presbyterian Church, Palo Alto, CA, a More Light Church for number-crunching and analysis of trends so far for Amendment 08-B -- go to http://yeson08b.blogspot.com/
