Today, January 24, Albany Presbytery voted overwhelmingly to affirm Ordination Amendment 08-B by a vote of 78 YES, 25 NO with 2 abstentions.
The first vote 76 NO to 27 YES to defeat a "No Action" initiative that preceded the actual vote on Amendment 08-B.
We want to alert all of you working in local presbyteries to pass 08-B to be paying attention to these "No Action" efforts in your presbytery and be ready to address them.
Special thanks to Presbyterian Rainbow and all those working to end discrimination against LGBT Presbyterians and their families now. A note from Terry Diggory from the Presbyterian Rainbow team follows this note of celebration and gratitude. Thanks be to God for this victory in Albany! Together We are building a Church for all God's people.
with hope and grace,
Michael

Dear Friends: Your faithful support has borne fruit in Albany. I am pleased to report:
In stated meeting today (January 24) the Presbytery of Albany voted in favor of Amendment 08-B by a tally of 78 yes, 25 no, 2 abstentions. A previous vote to postpone indefinitely (i.e., “No Action”) was defeated by a tally of 27 yes, 76 no. Most of the debate centered on the No Action option, and after that was decided the meeting moved very quickly to vote on the Amendment itself.
The debate during the afternoon was preceded by a 75 minute session in the morning devoted to statements by panelists representing different positions, small group discussion, and Question/Answer. Interestingly, the two panelists representing the positions “for” and “against” started from the same Scripture passage: Matthew 22:34-40 (“Which is the greatest commandment?”).
The historical occasion of President Obama’s inauguration last Tuesday was much in the air, and cited by both liberals and conservatives. God is working God’s purpose out!
