We request your prayers for the MLP Board meeting, February 17 - 20 in San Antonio, Texas. We moved our board meeting to support marriage equality in our Church. The GAPJC hearing on the Janie Spahr case is scheduled for February 17. The primary work for our Board this weekend is preparation for the 220th General Assembly. GA is June 30 to July 7 in Pittsburgh, PA. We excited to be finalizing details on the National MLP Celebration Dinner, the National MLP Educational Luncheon, Exhibit Hall booth, legislative support team, worship service, witness and hospitality suite. The GAPJC hearing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM on Friday, February 17. As you may know, judicial charges were brought against Rev. Janie Spahr for officiating legal same-sex marriage services. We believe in marriage equality in both Church and state. We support the discretion of a Presbyterian minister in performing marriage services for opposite and same-sex couples. We believe that love is a gift of God and that marriage should be not determined by gender any more than by race or any other human difference. Please join us in holding Rev. Janie Spahr, her legal team and the GAPJC in your thoughts and prayers. We're grateful that Madison Square Presbyterian Church and University Presbyterian Church, the two welcoming and affirming More Light Churches are holding worship services on Thursday and Friday evenings in support of marriage equality and in solidarity with Rev. Spahr. Rev. Gusti Newquist serves as pastor at Madison Square Presbyterian Church and Rev. Kelly Allen serves as pastor of University Presbyterian Church. The MLP Board and staff will be worshipping at Madison Square Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. If you have questions, comments or recommendations that you would want shared with the Board for consideration during our meeting, please do send those to me at michael@mlp.org We thank you for your prayers for wisdom and guidance for our Board as it meets in San Antonio. We thank you for your prayers for a loving and just decision by the GAPJC in the Spahr case. Together we are building a Church that reflects God's heart. with hope and grace, Michael Michael J.
