Atlanta, GA: More Light Presbyterians is delighted and
grateful to announce the premiere of a new documentary about the life,
transition and ministry of our beloved friend and colleague, the Rev.
Dr. Erin K. Swenson. A Presbyterian minister and pastoral counselor,
Erin serves with MLP as our National Liaison for Transgender Education.
Erin recently served as Co-Moderator of the MLP National
Board of Directors. Erin presented the workshop, "Pastoral Care in Transgender
Experience" at the National Welcoming & Affirming Presbyterian Conference,
"God's Whole Family!" hosted by Second Presbyterian Church, Nashville, TN over
Labor Day weekend.
The premiere of the new documentary
about Erin will be Sunday, October 4, 12:30 PM at the "Out on
Film" Festival at the Ansley Park Playhouse, 1545 Peachtree Street, Atlanta.
Erin will address the premiere audience at this headline event. The press release about this new film

DOCUMENTARY FEATURING REVEREND ERIN SWENSON
---FIRST MAINSTREAM MINISTER TO TRANSITION AND REMAIN A MINISTER ---
PREMIERES AT OUT ON FILM FESTIVAL SUNDAY OCTOBER
4TH
ATLANTA --- A one-hour documentary featuring Reverend Erin
Swenson - the first minister to transition from male to female and to stay a
minister in the mainstream church, as a Presbyterian minister - will debut at
the Out on Film Festival (www.outonfilm.org) at
12:30 pm on Sunday, October 4th, at the Ansley Park Playhouse at 1545 Peachtree
Street. The screening is the headline event in the festival's first ever
"Civil Rights Salon", and Reverend Swenson will address the audience at the
premiere.
Longtime Atlantan
Reverend Erin Swenson is an icon in the national tlgb movement. Lobbying
Capitol Hill on numerous occasions, Reverend Swenson has testified before
Congress on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), to ensure equal
employment protection for all tlgb citizens.
Continuing her active ministry as a pastoral psychotherapist in Midtown,
Reverend Swenson lectures, preaches, and leads a variety of educational
workshops on local, regional, and national levels. She is a leading advisor and
spokesperson for the Religion and Faith Program of the Human Rights Campaign,
and is a close associate of Georgia native Harry Knox, Director of HRC's
Religion and Faith Program. Likewise a leader in the lgbt equality movement,
Mr. Knox was recently appointed to President Barack Obama's advisory council on
Faith-Based and Neighborhood
Partnerships.
Touching Up Our Roots: Georgia's LGBT History Project Initiative, the
Atlanta non-profit which promotes, preserves, and publicizes the contributions
lgbt people make to our rights and our freedoms, produced this documentary in
concert with Atlanta Emmy-nominated videographer Aaron Faulkner, with support
from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The documentary is intended to
educate audiences nationwide about transgender experiences, struggles, and
triumphs to cultivate impassioned activism for the fundamental human and civil
rights of all transgender persons.
The
Civil Rights Salon festival event will be a fundraiser for Out on Film
(www.outonfilm.org) and Touching Up Our Roots (www.touchingupourroots.org),
and will be preceded by a "tlgb" brunch starting at 11:30 am at the Ansley Park
Playhouse, followed by the screening at 12:30 pm. The reception is $25 for the
brunch and screening, and $10 for the screening alone. Out on Film Festival
passes also are valid for the Salon event.
