More Light Presbyterians is absolutely delighted to be able to attend and support the 2009 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women, July 11 - 15, Louisville, Kentucky.
"Let your inner feminine shine, Michael" was the encouragement and blessing that Ralph Carter, MLP Board and Elder, Third Presbyterian Church, Rochester, NY, a welcoming & affirming More Light Church, shared with me as I am preparing to go to my fourth Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women.
I love Presbyterian Women. :) They get it. They see and experience their families and churches through the lens of their hearts that overflow with love and care for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning persons in their lives... children, grandchildren, friends in their families, at church or work.
We are indebted to Rev. Bear Ride and Rev. Susan Craig who encouraged MLP to attend the PW Gathering its very first time and created our first program that included a specially composed for that occasion Jane Parker Huber hymn.
Look for us in the Exhibit Hall. MLP will have an educational booth throughout the Gathering. Exhibit Hall visitation days and hours:
July 11: 11 AM - 7 PM
July 12 and 13: 10:30 AM - 7 PM
July 14: 1:30 PM - 7:00 PM
We'll have 2 new educational resources for you for families and congregations: "All God's Children," teaching children about sexual orientation and gender diversity, by Melany Burrill & Ann Thompson Cook; and "Taking a New Look" Why Congregations Need LGBT Members, A LifeQuest Publication from A Christian Community.
The Presbyterian Church, Mount Kisko, NY is providing their most helpful educational resource, "What We Wish We Had Known," or affectionately known as the "Blue Books." The LGBT/faith study guides will be available at our booth.
We will have a display of "The Shower of Stoles Project" at our booth and we are glad to be sharing our booth space with TAMFS. MLP will have our new "rainbow bracelets" and other materials to share.
More Light Presbyterians is so pleased that Rev. Gusti Newquist, Co-Pastor, St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, Tucson, AZ, a welcoming and affirming More Light Church, will be offering 3 sessions of the extraordinary workshop created first by Rev. Eunice Poethig, "Grace Notes from the Bible for our LGBTQ Family.'' Gusti will be offering this workshop on July 12, 13 and 14 from 2 PM - 4 PM. If you have not signed up for this workshop, please check it out when you arrive in Louisville. You don't want to miss this.
So, if you are going to Louisville for the 2009 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women, I hope to see you there. Please do stop by the MLP Booth and join Gusti for the wonderful and inspiring workshop, "Grace Notes from the Bible for our LGBTQ Family."
See you in Louisville!
Michael
