Lake View Presbyterian Church (Chicago, IL) seeks an Associate Pastor for Small Group Ministries.
A. Major Responsibilities:
Summary With emphasis on small group ministries, the integration of new members into the congregation and under the guidance of the Pastor provides congregational support through developing and providing leadership for various groups, conducting of religious worship services, assisting in outreach activities, participating in various committees, and performing or assisting in other spiritual functions associated with the Presbyterian faith. Essential Duties/Responsibilities •Participates in identification of spiritual needs of community/congregation. •Identifies small group ministry opportunities within congregation/community and develops programs to address needs. •Acts as resource for enhancement of current small group ministries such as Senior Center, Young Adults, etc. •Oversees community outreach activities that can be addressed through small group ministry. •Supports growth of church membership and growth of church members spiritually. •Participates in instructing people who seek to join church. •Oversees integration of new members into church community. •Prepares and delivers sermons •When requested, conducts wedding and funeral services and administers religious rites or ordinances. •Oversees committees and groups such as the Deacons. •Visits sick and shut-ins, and helps those in need. •Counsels those in spiritual need and comforts bereaved. •Oversees religious education including Food for Thought and Youth Sunday School.

Effectively presents information and ideas to others •Inspires and motivates community, congregation and small groups •Displays passion and optimism; Exhibits support of short and long range vision for church •Accepts delegated responsibilities and delegates appropriately •Makes self available to staff/members of congregation •Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences •Integrity/ethics are above reproach •Guided by the Christian values and standards of the Presbyterian Church (USA) •Exhibits sound judgment in decision making. Committed to consensus building. •Demonstrates persistence to overcome obstacles. Takes risks to accomplish goals. •Uses time efficiently, delegates appropriate tasks •Treats everyone in community and congregation with respect and consideration •Master’s of Divinity degree (M. Div.) with some ministerial experience preferred •Effectively uses simple math •Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions •Basic knowledge of Internet and Word Applications •The position has no unusual physical demands, though it does require a high energy level. Our building is not 100% accessible. •The single most prominent environmental characteristic is the extremely eclectic nature of the community and congregation
