Posted Wednesday, October 17 2007 @ 07:15 PM by Anonymous

Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church (Chicago, IL) seeks an Associate Pastor for Young Adults.

A. Major Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this associate pastor position is to further congregational growth and redevelopment. A particular constituency for outreach is our large number of visitors each year, many of whom are younger adults (20’s and 30’s). Key responsibilities of the position will include:

•Follow-up with visitors
•New member integration
•Coordination of younger adult activities
•Outreach to students at neighboring DePaul University.

In addition, the associate pastor will share in pastoral care with the lead pastor. S/he will preach 6–10 times each year and provide regular worship leadership as liturgist or lector. S/he will participate in the celebration of the sacraments.

The associate pastor will be the primary staff person for the Congregational Life, Outreach and Care ministry team. S/he will be a colleague with and supervised by the lead pastor.

B. Characteristics and qualifications needed

The associate pastor will possess an eagerness to minister with a smaller, active, progressive, urban Presbyterian congregation. S/he will be a team player, committed to working with strong lay leaders (whose time commitments are often stretched by professional responsibilities) as well as the lead pastor and other staff members.

Key personal characteristics include a strong commitment to evangelistic outreach. Also, self initiation is critical. Flexibility and organizational skills are vital. An all-inclusive vision of the church is a critical prerequisite, as well as enthusiasm for working with a diverse urban population (e.g., young professionals, people living with mental illness, aging members, individuals who are homeless, and seekers who have been away from the church for years).

A strong personal faith that intersects the congregation’s mission and vision statements is vital; as is a willingness to grow spiritually in her/his relationship with God in Christ, at the leading of the Spirit.

The associate pastor will minister with a variety of families and should welcome alternative expressions of family (e.g., single parents, blended families, same-gender couples and parents, and adoptive families).

A commitment to this position for at least 2 to 3 years is expected.
