Voices of Witness
“Most transgender Christians are searching for the same things that other believers want: a connection to their God within a loving community where worship and working for equality and justice are the focus of the Christian experience.” The introduction to TransACTION continues, “Unfortunately, these searching transgender people are too often left without a place to call their ‘church home’ because most congregations and religious institutions are not ready to welcome them as their Christian companions.”
In many ways, the Episcopal Church is leading the way in welcoming transgender people as their Christian companions.
Voices of Witness: Out of the Box, a film produced by TransEpiscopal and Integrity USA as a gift to the Episcopal Church, is a groundbreaking documentary giving voice to the witness of transgender people of faith. “I believe God is calling us into this conversation now,” said New Hampshire Bishop Gene Robinson, one of the voices featured in the project. “It is an opportunity to get to understand another part of God’s never-ending diversity and another way to live into our baptismal calling to love all God’s children.”
This film courageously invites views into the journeys of Transgender people of faith and is ultimately a celebration of hope and the power of God’s love to transcend even seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
